Exploring Warburton

Hello again πŸ™‚ Australian summer is here. Would you like to relax in a cool haven? Even on a very hot summer’s day in Melbourne. Then, Warburton is one of those beautiful little towns where you can be.

It’s an interesting all-season destination that you can enjoy with family and kids.
It’s a place where the Yarra River runs young and clear, with an abundance of greenery and natural beauty surrounding it. Warburton is located in the north-eastern region of Victoria. It is a family-friendly destination with just one and a half hours drive from Melbourne.

Yarra river Walk

This trail is an almost 3 kilometres long pathway along the Yarra river. It runs through the town centre, beautiful landscapes and river crossings, including the iconic swingbridge in Story Reserve. Kids will enjoy wandering and exploring the river banks full of native flowers and plants. They’ll also love to dip their feet in crystal clear Yarra river water on a hot summer day.

big peninsula tunnel

The Big Peninsula Tunnel is a small tunnel used to divert the Yarra river. During the gold rush period, this diversion allowed gold miners to better access the river beds. This is a unique and surreal place where the river runs through this tunnel. It’s just a short 20-minute drive from Warbuton town centre. From the car park, we can access the river from both sides of the tunnel, tunnel inlet and outlet.
The tunnel inlet side provides a better view of the tunnel. There are several stepping stones across the river. These can be used as a mini adventure tour for kids, only if the water level is low and safe.

red wood forest

This is an amazing place with tall Californian Red Wood trees. Roaming among these trees will bring you a unique sense of serenity and the creek flowing near by is a delight to watch and explore.

Mount donna buang

If you happen to visit Warburton in winter, you might be able to do some snow play at Mt. Donna Buang. It’s not a designated place for snow activities, but would be nice to be able to do some impromtu snow play and it’s free πŸ™‚ Make sure, you check the snow report before your arrival.

rainforest gallery

Take a stroll through this wonderful cool temperate rainforest which also has an elevated platform of 15 metres above the forest floor. This will help you unwind among those majestic Mountain Ash and ancient Myrtle Beech trees. Some of these trees are estimated to be over 400 years old.

warburton rail trail

We couldn’t try this one out yet. But, if you and your family love cycling, this rail trail is a great cycle route for the whole family to enjoy while absorbing the rural beauty of Warburton and its surrounding suburbs.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about things to do around Warburton and got some ideas to plan your next family trip together.
I’ll see you all in another travel blog post and until then happy traveling and take care!

  2. Hello Aiva

It’s so nice to hear from you again. I know, its been ages 😊

We are doing well. Thanks a lot and I hope you and your family is doing well too.

I couldn’t keep up with writing much during past year or two as I started full time working and also been a busy mum for our three kids. 😊 However, trying to get back into writing as much as I can in the new year.

Thanks again and have a lovely day!
