Swan Hill and the Heartbeat of the Murray River

It’s been a while since I last wrote a post here. Being a full-time mum to a full-time back-to-work mum made a significant lifestyle difference, which kept me busy with many other priorities on top of writing.

But, in this holiday season, it’s time to start again and here’s a recap of a beautiful journey we made to Swann Hill not only once but twice to make some memorable moments to share.

Swann hIll

Swan Hill is a historical city in the northwest of the state Victoria, Australia and it is, on the Murray River’s south bank. This part of Victoria is usually seen as very dry and hot especially, during the summer months.

However, we visited both during Autumn and early Summer and experienced comfortable weather conditions and were amazed by the beautiful natural treasures and the stories of the rich heritage of Swan Hill.

Being a historic and culturally rich town, Swann Hill’s local council has introduced 3 unique tourist experiences that are worthy of being tried by everyone.

Heartbeat of the Murray

The heartbeat of the Murray is a spectacular projected laser light show on a screen made of water from the Murray and displayed by the banks of the Murray, telling the Aboriginal dream tale of how Murray river evolved through the years and gave life to many animals and humans.

For thousands of years, the mighty Murray river has been flowing down the valleys in Australia making the soil rich for cultivation, creating habitats for numerous animals to survive and keeping people flourished throughout the years.

It’s that beautiful and heartwarming story of nature being told by this enchanting light show that fills our hearts with so much warmth and gratitude.

The laser light show is running every day of the week but it is highly recommended to make the bookings in advance if you are planning to visit this wonderful experience.

pioneer settlement village tour

We can relive the past in the 1850s, by taking this wonderful experience of the village tour, which is the first Australia’s open-air museum.

Pioneer cottages, complimentary vintage car or horse and carriage rides, old-fashioned lollies and toys from the general store, music stores, blacksmith works, machinery from the old era, and priceless antiques are just a few of the highlights from the village to mention.

You are invited to wander through these streets and visit 50 amusing historic building replicas to learn more about the interesting past of the early settlers.

Murray river cruise

Historically, Murray River has been famous for its paddle-steamers used for transporting people and goods throughout river communities. We can experience this elegant river cruise by a paddle steamer down the Murray river and unwind with the natural beauty and wildlife surrounding it.

Well, that was just a few snapshots in and around Swann Hill but the experiences and memories were endless.

Also, on this trip, we visited nearby attractions like Lake Tyrell (Pink Lake), Lake Boga Flying Boat museum and Silo-arts which are close enough to Swann Hill and can be seen within less than one hour drive from Swann Hill.

I hope to bring those highlights in another post to keep this one short and sweet. Until then, I wish everyone a Happy New Year and Safe and happy travels 🙂
